Extra pastous acrylics
Have you ever tried extra pastous acrylic colors? There are different companies that provide this kind of color but I have only tried Schmincke’s “Extra heavy body” and Liquitex “Super heavy body” so far.
This kind of color is not liquid but extremly pastous:
Which means you better take a palette knife. You can handle it like a structure gel. I like to use it for a special technique that – yes – I’ve learned in Kindergarten!
I put the extra pastous color on a paper or canvas, then press a second painting ground on it slightly move it and then rip the two painting grounds off of each other. That way you get twin paintings or (if you don’t use the second paper or cardboard as an own artwork) at least a very defined structure:
But be careful! Once the two painting grounds you press on each other have a certain size, it isn’t that easy to get them separated again. That’s what I realised, when making my twin paintings “Hexenkessel” (two canvasses of 100cm x 100cm each)!
The dark red stripe in the middle of “Stay on these roads” was made with extra pastous acrylics too. I put it on the canvasses with a big palette knife, then let it start to dry. When it was almost dry, I took a humid roll and spread the remains of humid color to the canvas while the dry structures remained there.
Have you tried extra pastous colors yet and what have you used it for?

Hexenkessel is just stunning. I can imagine that is was hard to separate the two. It’s simplicity is striking.
